About Elmton

We founded Local Gourmet out of a deep love for real food, for food that is fresh, healthy, and authentic. We only use real ingredients here at Local Gourmet. Farm fresh eggs, organic tomatoes, fresh water fish, and free-range beef. We strive to make each and every dish a wholesome expression of our love for food, life, and living. 

The Local Gourmet was born in 1989 as a tiny cafe at the corner of Main Street and 25th Avenue. Over the past two decades, our tiny cafe has blossomed into a thriving restaurant, with indoor and outdoor seating, room for families, parties and even crowds. (Yes, we do catering...just ask us!) 

John Walters and Dorothy Walters in May 1945 opened The Elmton; as a bar, they gradually added food. The first item offered was a 16” pizza. The recipe for the pizza was experimental and it is made the same way today. The pizza boxes read “Real Pizza”, which was coined by a customer, and has become our trademark. There are now 12” and 8” pizzas, as well as broasted chicken, which was added to the menu in 1965. 



The chicken is prepared, with less fat, carbohydrates, and calories. The Elmton’s menu now features full dinners, sandwiches, and appetizers. In 1969, John’s son Jack and his wife, Marianne joined the business, which is now operated by Marianne and son Jack Jr. The Elmton seats 145 people and features a full bar, making it the perfect stop before or after the high school football game, other sporting events, or anytime
